In 2021, Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have expanded by 2.58 percent compared to the previous year, despite the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on all fields of the national economy.

According to the National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development, in 2021, up to $1.3 billion has poured into Vietnamese startups, which is 4 times higher than that of last year 2020. The capital came from more than 200 funds and most of the funds have been invested in Fintech, E-commerce, Logistics, Insurance, Real Estate, Education, and Healthcare.

Among the current 3,800 startups, there are 3 uprising companies valued at over $1 billion and entering the unicorn club of Asia: VNG, VNPay and MoMo. Other 11 companies are valued at more than $100 million each. It can be seen that the startup ecosystem of Vietnam starts to develop and attract more and more attention from investors all over the world.

Especially, 2021 observed the huge success of Fintech startups, when two out of three Vietnamese unicorns belong to the Fintech sector.
